HORSEBACK RIDING
Used to ride years ago? Never ridden a horse? Want to "try" to see what its all about? Maybe your partner has never been on horse-back? Here at the Black Locust Stables, you can enjoy horses and learn new skills. Come, let us give you the opportunity to experience the fun of horse-back riding.
Riding horses is a great way to invigorate your spirit and help you get in touch with the real beauty and power of life. Our guide and magnificent horses will take you . . . "o'er the fields and through the woods" where you can sit back and unwind, while enjoying nature at it's best! Maybe if you're lucky, you'll see a family of deer who have settled into our woods. Maybe even our family of foxes.
Learn about horses and develop some riding skills at the same time. And as part of your introductory riding experience, take a scenic ride through the woods and fields to the lake with your guide who will continue coaching you in a real time environment.
Note! No strings of 25 "nose-to-tail" horses here! Our commitment is to quality not quantity. The number in each group is limited to 2 so that each rider receives individual attention.
The 90 minute horse-riding package starts with a 20 minute intro lesson, on how to ride the horse and safety reminders. We will help you to be comfortable and safe around the horses,
teaching you how to correctly lead and tie, mount and dismount, stop and start. Lots of hands-on assistance on good balance and gentle communication with the horse.
Negotiate our simulated trail in the safety of the enclosed arena (coming shortly), and when we are satisfied that you are competent to leave the arena, we will guide you on a scenic ride passing through the woods, hay fields and grassy meadows or down to the Chautauqua lake - and back.
All this at a leisurely pace offering the opportunity to keep an eye out for deer, rabbits, hawks, egrets, herons, blackbirds, and maybe even a coyote.
Whether you are new to riding, or experienced, the vantage from horseback always adds a new dimension to viewing the world around you. With opportunities to pause, take photos, and take in the
peaceful atmosphere, you are sure to remember this experience for a long time.
